Fourth Annual Catskills Winter Outing Sign Up Now Available

Please join some AAC, NY Section Ice Climbers and Skiers for the Four Annual Catskills Outing.

Deer Mountain Inn is located in the woods two miles north of Tannersville, NY on Route 25.  It features beautiful rooms with fireplaces, an excellent restaurant, full bar, ample congregation space, peaceful quiet and very convenient proximity to Stony, Platte, and Kaaterskill Cloves for ice climbing and Hunter, Windham, and Belleayre for downhill skiing.  Ample trails for cross country skiing (Mountain Trails Cross Country Ski Center), winter hiking and snowshoeing are also nearby.

Rates:
  • The approximate cost of the weekend is $200.  This includes:
  • accomodations for Friday and Saturday night
  • Saturday and Sunday breakfast
  • Saturday dinner at Deer Mountain Inn's Restaurant, including wine

High Ground : Playing at the Rubin Museum this Weekend

 
 
Come see "High Ground", the inspirational Michael Brown feature length film about 11 returning Iraq & Afganistan veterans who attempt to climb a 20,000 ft. Himalayan peak . Among the guides in the film are Erik Weihenmayer, the blind climber, and our own Dr. Sherman Bull and his son Brad. Sherm, if you recall, showed a short excerpt from the film at the 2011 NY Section Black Tie Annual Dinner.

The film will be shown this weekend at the Rubin Museum. 7th Avenue & 17th Street. There is a cash bar at the Museum so look for other AAC members there on Friday.

Southern Utah Trip by AAC NY Section Members Greg Frux and Janet Morgan

The following trip organized by members Greg Frux and Janet Morgan may be of interest to NY Section members.

Our Southern Utah trip for artists is definitely on!
 
Create alongside Gregory Frux and Janet Morgan at a wilderness base-camp in Redrock canyon country. One-on-one painting & drawing instruction, five days, unique location, fully catered, expert local guide.
 
Attention Artists
Immerse yourself in the silent, lushly textured landscape of Southern Utah's canyon labyrinth.  Escape Goats is teaming up with Art & Adventure to provide a unique fully catered fun filled 4-night 5-day specialty tour within the Escalante Grand-Staircase National Monument and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Base camp will be located at the seldom-visited far end of the famous Hole-in-the Rock Road. Guided hikes and art instruction in gorgeous settings like Broken Bow Arch, Sunset Arch, Dance Hall Rock, the Devils Garden etc.
Hikes will vary from 2 to 5 miles round trip. Learn and work alongside two professional artists with over thirty years experience each. Gregory Frux is an expert in outdoor oil painting, Janet Morgan is an accomplished watercolorist, both are conversant in field sketching and they can provide individual instruction in various mediums at all experience levels. This trip will be a rich learning experience-- We will explore geology, plants, desert wildlife, and local history. All gear and transportation from Escalante to base camps and hikes will be provided, (tents, sleeping bags, pads, food). A packing list for personal items and customized art supply list will be provided for each attendee.
Dates for the trip are April 22-26. $950.00 plus tax per person. $200 deposit required, non-refundable 30 days prior to trip. Maximum size is six guests, insuring personalized attention. Four spots remain available.
